Television (1992)
Though the guitars of Richard Lloyd and Tom Verlaine are impressive throughout, the album doesn't really take hold until halfway through.
Probably no one will ever know whether Television really broke up in 1979 (or was it '78) or if they really did decide way back when to wait 13 years to record their third album.
In any case their third album Television (Capitol) is out and now this group of underground legends is on tour. Though the guitars of Richard Lloyd and Tom Verlaine are impressive throughout, the album doesn't really take hold until halfway through with "No Glamor for Willi," and stays fairly strong after that.
Verlaine's vocals are as eccentric as ever, half-talking, half-mumbling his way through most of the material, but hearing him now, it's easy to detect his influence on a host of (mostly British) singers and not as easy to detect whether their influence now haunts him.
Not exactly a knockout, the album does get better with repeated listening, but either way Richard Lloyd is almost always worth catching.
