In case you’re wondering, I went and did exactly what Bob Dylan asked for and transposed Moonlight Sonata from C#Minor to F#Major.
In case you’re wondering what this is all about, I went and did exactly what Bob Dylan asked for and played Moonlight Sonata in F# and now you can too. I transposed Moonlight Sonata from C#Minor to F#Major using Logic Pro X.
Play Moonlight Sonata in F sharp
And Key to the Highway by the king of the harp
Play Marchin’ Through Georgia and Dumbarton’s Drums
Play Darkness and death will come when it comes
Play Love Me or Leave Me by the great Bud Powell
Play the Blood Stained Banner - play Murder Most Foul
Listen here and let me know what you think of the changed melody and any thoughts you may have. I haven’t had any revelations myself from doing as Bob asked. So still no further forward in knowing why F#Major. Maybe the act of doing so kind of murders the song itself, stripping out the magic. Maybe he just wanted it to rhyme with Harp.
Moonlight Sonata (F#Major)
Beethoven wrote the Moonlight Sonata in 1801 when he was 30. It was known as Piano Sonata No. 14 in C-sharp minor, Op. 27, No. 2, and he dedicated to his student, Countess Julie "Giulietta" Guicciardi. Although it is widely known as the "Moonlight Sonata," Beethoven did not give it this name. The title became popular later, likely after his death.
