Farewell to the great Tony Brown (1949 to 2025)

Tony Brown, 75, bassist for Deliverance, The Harbor Band, The Montgomeries, Eric Andersen and Bob Dylan’s iconic 1975 album “Blood on the Tracks,” died March 3 2025 of lung cancer.

Tony Brown

I received some very sad news last week. Peter’s brother Tony Brown died on March 3rd. He was a truly great man, who made a quite beautiful life and legacy but was never one to make a fuss about his gift or his impact. He made a beautiful life with his wife, artist, designer and sculptor Babette Holland and I still recall that first time I met them both on a visit to NYC back in I think 2002. Tony had a real presence and a conviction, integrity and depth, something that I’m sure drew many to him. All of my love is with his dear wife Babette and all of his family and friends. Tony is perhaps most well known for his mythical contribution to Bob Dylan’s Blood on the Tracks, and as a member of Deliverence.
